Dr Emma Hodges

Clincial Psychologist · EMDR trained · CAT Supervisor

I am a fully qualified HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist.  Having studied psychology at Cardiff University I went on to complete clinical psychology training at Exeter University. Following qualification, I continued to work in the NHS for over 15 years, being privileged to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. More recently I expanded my clinical practice to include working in the private sector. I am passionate about supporting people to improve their quality of life and look forward to this continuing long into the future.

Difficulties I work with

I support adults (18 years +) with a variety of emotional and psychological difficulties including:

  • Relationship difficulties
  • Depression & low mood
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) & Trauma
  • Problematic relationships with food (not Eating Disorders)
  • Emotion regulation
  • CAT Supervision for therapists

In my work with trauma I can offer support following a single event trauma as well multiple/ongoing trauma such as that from difficult childhood experiences.

My Approach

I work using a variety of evidence-based approaches and often draw on several in one therapy session. I can also work consistently within one approach if beneficial for the client and the issues bieng addressed.

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) as a therapist and supervisor

Head to the ‘Treatment Approaches’ page to read more about these approaches.

All interventions are tailored to address your needs and agreed goals for therapy (or supervision).

My Values

The foundation of my practice has always been the relationship between me and those I am working with. I believe we can all find ourselves struggling in life, no matter how hard we try to make things work. Sometimes we need to take the brave step of inviting someone else in to work together to help us move forward in a way that fits with our values. I find it encouraging to hold in mind that whatever the difficulties, everyone has the capacity to try to learn new ways of relating and being in the world that can bring greater life satisfaction. I value being open and direct, sharing personal experience and humour when appropriate. I also work based on the belief that every person is equal regardless of factors such as race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and religion.

I offer in person and remote sessions from the Hampshire Wellbeing Consulting Rooms in Hursley on Monday and Friday mornings.
