Meet the Evolving Minds Team

Dr Kate Vasey

Clinical Psychologist | Founder of Evolving Minds Consultancy & Hampshire Wellbeing Rooms

I am a fully qualified, HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years’ experience across the NHS and private practice. I provide evidence-based assessment and therapy for children, young people, adults, and consultation and training to staff teams in education and healthcare.

I have a specialist interest in supporting individuals who have experienced trauma, whether a single-event (e.g. accident, medical incident) or repeated smaller traumas, as well as people living with anxiety or chronic health conditions.  I am also passionate about taking psychological knowledge and skills out of the therapy room and into organisations, especially into schools.

About Me

After completing my doctorate in clinical psychology at Royal Holloway, University London, I went on to work in the NHS for over 15 years in NHS Paediatric Psychology teams across London and Southampton.  My work included supporting children with complex medical and emotional needs across intensive care, cardiology, respiratory, oncology, and general paediatrics, as well as the adults caring for them.  I have extensive experience in trauma-focused therapy and bereavement support for parents.

I also supported healthcare staff wellbeing through training, reflective practice, and supervision, which inspired the Educator Wellbeing Service, helping staff understand and manage their own wellbeing and that of their teams.  7 years ago, whilst working part-time in the NHS I founded Evolving Minds Consultancy to provide compassionate, accessible, values-led evidence-based psychological care in both 1:1 work and through the Educator Wellbeing Service.

The Educator Wellbeing Service is designed to support the wellbeing of the those who support others, combining clinical expertise with practical, evidence-informed strategies.  We work with schools, colleges and healthcare teams to develop bespoke wellbeing packages, including staff workshops, reflective supervision groups, leadership support, and tailored 1:1 sessions.  These interventions strengthen resilience, reduce burnout, and build sustainable, psychological safe staff cultures.  Head to the Educator Wellbeing page to read more about this service.

Over the course of my professional career I have continued to invest in professional development, attending specialist training to ensure my practice is evidence-based, flexible and compassionate.

Medico-legal experience: I have over five year’s experience providing psychological assessment and therapy as part of medico-legal treatment teams.  If you are a case manager feel free to get in touch to discuss your client’s needs.

Difficulties I work with

In my 1:1 private practice I offer psychological assessment and therapy for adults and young people experiencing:

  • Trauma (PTSD and sub threshold trauma)
  • Anxiety disorders (generalised, school-related, social, health anxiety, phobias)
  • High stress, emotional overwhelm and burnout
  • School-related difficulties (school-related anxiety, barriers to attendance)
  • Chronic health conditions and medical-related trauma
  • Returning to work or school after illness or stress-related absence
  • Specialist wellbeing support for educators (workshops, reflective groups, supervision, 1:1 staff support sessions)
  • Parenting challenges and co-parenting difficulties
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Feeling stuck, lacking direction, or struggling to cope, you do not need a diagnosis to seek support.

My Approach

My approach is warm, collaborative and evidence-based. I tailor therapy to each individual, guided by NICE recommendations, drawing on:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Systemic Therapy
  • EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing)

Head to the ‘Treatment Approaches’ page to read more about these approaches.

I work to create a safe, inclusive, and neuro-affirming space, helping clients explore barriers, build skills, and reconnect with their strengths and values.  I believe distress is a normal part of being human, not a personal failing, and something that we all experience in our lives.  I aim to support clients in developing sustainable strategies to live fulfilling, values-aligned lives.

My Values

I am passionate about supporting individuals to:

  • Live life on their own terms, guided by their values
  • Build practical skills to respond differently to unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour

Dr Emma Hodges

Clinical Psychologist | CAT Supervisor

Having studied psychology at Cardiff University I went on to complete clinical psychology training at Exeter University. Following qualification, I continued to work in the NHS for over 15 years, being privileged to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. More recently I expanded my clinical practice to include working in the private sector. I am passionate about supporting people to improve their quality of life and look forward to this continuing long into the future.

My Values

The foundation of my practice has always been the relationship between me and those I am working with. I believe we can all find ourselves struggling in life, no matter how hard we try to make things work. Sometimes we need to take the brave step of inviting someone else in to work together to help us move forward in a way that fits with our values. I find it encouraging to hold in mind that whatever the difficulties, everyone has the capacity to try to learn new ways of relating and being in the world that can bring greater life satisfaction. I value being open and direct, sharing personal experience and humour when appropriate. I also work based on the belief that every person is equal regardless of factors such as race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and religion.

My Approach

I work using a variety of evidence-based approaches and often draw on several in one therapy. I can also work consistently within one approach if necessary. I am further trained in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) as a clinician and supervisor, as well as EMDR. I also like to use ideas from Compassion Focussed Therapy, CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. All interventions are structured based on your needs and goals for therapy or as a supervisee.
